Cyprus has hosted 24,230 displaced Ukrainians under temporary protection as of January 31, Eurostat data released on Tuesday show, placing the island fourth among EU member states in terms of the number of beneficiaries relative to population.
The figure corresponds to 24.7 people per 1,000 inhabitants, down 1,235 people or 4.8 per cent since the end of December 2025.
At EU level, 4.38 million Ukrainians who fled after the Russian invasion were under temporary protection, an increase of 23,110 people or 0.5 per cent compared to December 2025.
Germany hosted the largest number at 1.26 million, followed by Poland with 965,990 and the Czech Republic with 397,185.
In terms of proportion, the Czech Republic led with 36.4 people per thousand, Poland 26.5, Slovakia 25.8, while the EU average stood at 9.7 per thousand.
Ukrainian citizens made up 98.4 per cent of beneficiaries in the EU, with adult women representing 43.5 per cent, minors 30.3 per cent, and adult men 26.1 per cent.
Eurostat noted the figures are based on the EU’s temporary protection mechanism under Council Executive Decision 2022/382.
The European Council extended the status on June 13, 2025 to cover arrivals from March 4, 2026 to March 4, 2027.
