Interest rates for new housing loans in Cyprus rose to a peak of 3.41 per cent in January, up from 3.25 per cent during the previous month, though borrowing costs on the island remain lower than the eurozone average.
At the same time, the lowest interest rate for household housing loans stood at 2.50 per cent in January, compared with 2.39 per cent in December 2025.
According to the monthly interest rate statistics published by the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC) for January 2026, the highest rate for new housing loans to eurozone resident households in euros was offered by the Housing Finance Corporation at 3.41 per cent.
This was followed by the Bank of Cyprus, which offered a 3.23 per cent rate, and Ancoria Bank with 3.10 per cent.
The lowest rate for new housing loans to households was offered by Alpha Bank Cyprus at 2.86 per cent.
Overall, the average housing loan interest rate across all banks in Cyprus stood at 3.04 per cent in January, compared with 3.39 per cent across the eurozone.
The figures also showed that the highest interest rate for loans exceeding €1 million granted to non-financial corporations in euros to eurozone residents, regardless of the initial rate fixation period for new business and new contracts, was offered by the Bank of Cyprus at 4.72 per cent.
The second highest rate for these corporate loans was offered by Alpha Bank Cyprus at 3.82 per cent.
The lowest interest rate for loans above €1 million to non-financial companies was recorded at Ancoria Bank with 3.42 per cent.
In relation to deposits, the data showed that the highest interest rate offered on household time deposits with a maturity of up to one year for new business in January 2026 was provided by National Bank of Greece (Cyprus) at 1.67 per cent.
This was followed by Ancoria Bank with 1.46 per cent and Alpha Bank Cyprus with 1.42 per cent.
The lowest household deposit interest rate for a maturity of up to one year was offered by the Housing Finance Corporation at 0.85 per cent.
For time deposits with a maturity of up to one year placed by companies, the highest interest rate offered in January 2026 was again provided by National Bank of Greece (Cyprus) at 1.71 per cent.
This was followed by the Bank of Cyprus with 1.45 per cent and Alpha Bank Cyprus with 1.43 per cent.
The lowest interest rate for corporate deposits with a maturity of up to one year was offered by the Housing Finance Corporation at 0.67 per cent.
