A 26-year-old man was sentenced to prison on Friday after the Paphos district court found him guilty of a hit-and-run fatal accident in November 2023, in which Goga Partsvania, 33, from Georgia had died.

The court imposed concurrent sentences of 12 months and 14 months for causing death due to reckless driving and abandoning the scene of the accident.

His driver’s licence was also suspended for 12 months and he was given eight penalty points.

The accident happened just after midnight on November 5, 2023, on Ikaros street in Paphos. Goga Partsvania was crossing the road when he was hit by a car. The driver fled, leaving his car at the scene.

Goga Partsvania was taken by ambulance to Paphos general hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

At around 2.15am on the same day, the 26-year-old returned to the scene of the accident and told the police he was the driver.

He was subsequently arrested.
