Police said on Sunday they arrested seven people during targeted overnight operations as part of ongoing crime prevention measures. Authorities also reported 163 drivers for various traffic offences following checks carried out across the island.

According to a police statement, one person was arrested for the offence of unlawful possession of property. Three others were taken into custody on outstanding court warrants related to malicious damage, theft and traffic violations. Two individuals were arrested for illegal stay in the Republic, while another was detained for leaving the scene of a road collision and resisting arrest, among other offences.

During the overnight operations, police stopped 708 vehicles and checked a total of 927 drivers and passengers. Inspections were also carried out at 52 premises, with the managers of 10 establishments reported for violations related to their operation.

In traffic enforcement checks, 163 drivers were reported, including 84 for speeding and 28 for driving under the influence of alcohol. Five vehicles were also impounded as part of the investigations.

Police said coordinated operations aimed at preventing and combating crime are continuing on a daily basis, with an increased presence on the ground, targeted checks and immediate operational response to ensure public safety and maintain law and order.
