Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos on Friday announced that another ship carrying humanitarian aid has sailed from Cyprus to Gaza as part of the Amalthea aid corridor.
The ship contained around 900 tonnes of humanitarian aid, which Kombos said comprises medical equipment, including neonatal incubators, hygiene items, shelter equipment and food shelters.
It set sail on March 17 and arrived two days later, with the aid now “in the process of being delivered to the civilian population of Gaza”, according to Kombos.
He added that the shipment was carried out in coordination with the United Nations office for project service (Unops), with the assistance of the UN development programme, the World Health Organisation, and the governments of both France and the United Arab Emirates.
“The Republic of Cyprus will steadfastly continue, regardless of the challenges, to function as a pillar of stability in the region, contributing tangibly through actions and initiatives to regional peace and security,” he said.
The shipment is the first to be publicly announced since Kombos had said in January that more than 30,000 tonnes of humanitarian aid have been delivered to Gaza from Cyprus since the creation of the Amalthea corridor in 2024.
