Police have arrested four people in connection with a series of burglary and theft cases in Nicosia, following a coordinated operation by the criminal investigation department.
According to the police, the suspects include three men aged 33, 30 and 26, and a 33-year-old woman. The arrests form part of an investigation into offences committed in recent days in the Nicosia district.
Officers first located and stopped a 33-year-old man shortly before noon while he was driving around.
He was wanted under a court warrant in connection with six cases involving building burglary, theft, unlawful entry, malicious damage to property and conspiracy to commit a felony, allegedly carried out between March 9 and 28 at construction sites.
He was arrested, while a subsequent search at his residence led to the arrest of a 33-year-old woman, who was also wanted in connection with the same cases.
Police said a large number of items were found at the suspect’s home and in his vehicle, including electrical and professional tools, scales and cables, believed to be stolen property.
During questioning, the 33-year-old reportedly admitted to the six cases under investigation, as well as two additional similar offences.
Later the same day, at around 8.30pm, officers located a 30-year-old man in another area of Nicosia, also wanted under a court warrant in connection with the cases.
He was a passenger in a vehicle driven by a 26-year-old man, who allegedly attempted to flee by speeding away.
Police pursued and stopped the vehicle, arresting both driver and passanger.
A search of the 30-year-old’s residence uncovered further construction tools, while he also directed officers to a location where a bag containing tools had been hidden.
The 26-year-old driver was also arrested for the offence of unlawful possession of property, after tools were found in his vehicle for which he failed to provide a satisfactory explanation.
All four suspects have been remanded in custody as investigations continue.
