Cyprus’ labour inspection department will run a special inspection campaign in hotels, restaurants and ready-to-eat food distribution premises from April to October 2026, as authorities step up checks on workplace safety and health.
In a statement, the department said the campaign will focus on the main causes of work accidents and occupational diseases recorded in those sectors.
These include risks linked to the use of sharp objects, falls on the same level and from a height, contact with hot surfaces, overturning shelves or falling objects, contact with biological agents, the storage and use of chemical substances, manual handling of loads, and the movement of motorcycles on the road network.
“The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness among all those involved in these sectors, in order to minimise occupational accidents, occupational diseases and dangerous incidents,” the department said.
At the same time, it added that the campaign will monitor whether employers are complying with occupational safety and health legislation, including the definition and implementation of appropriate protection and prevention measures based on a written risk assessment.
It also said the inspections will look at whether businesses have put in place a risk management system and whether they provide documented training on safety and health issues.
According to the statement, a list of control points, together with explanations of the main risks and the required protection and prevention measures on which this year’s campaign focuses, has been posted on the department’s website.
