The Costas Argyrou Museum is organising an experiential workshop titled “Shaping the Bridge of the Mediterranean”, an interactive artistic initiative inspired by the work of Costas Argyrou and the values of Cyprus’ 2026 presidency of the Council of the European Union.
Speaking to CNA, museum curator Andreas Hadjiloukas said the workshop has been designed and implemented by visual therapist Theodosia Hadjithekli and unfolds in three main stages.
Participants are first introduced to the artist’s work and naïve art, with an emphasis on concepts such as collectivity and community.
This is followed by a creative process in which participants shape personal “tiles” from clay, expressing memories, identities and ideas around coexistence.
The workshop concludes with a collective composition and discussion, where individual creations are brought together into a shared artwork, accompanied by an exchange of experiences.
Hadjiloukas explained that through this process, the museum becomes a space for co-creation and dialogue, where artistic practice serves as a tool for personal expression, social connection and cultural understanding.
He added that the initiative draws directly on Argyris’ work and the values underpinning Cyprus’ EU Council presidency, with the workshop delivered in successive creative cycles.
The first session took place on March 18 with students from Kiti Gymnasium, while a second is scheduled for April 22 in collaboration with the Cyprus Myopathy Association, involving participants with muscular disorders.
The museum plans to continue the workshop cycles for schools, organised groups and the wider public, with further dates to be announced soon.
According to Hadjiloukas, the workshop aims to foster cooperation, creative communication and coexistence, while highlighting clay as a material with both symbolic and experiential dimensions.
It also seeks to activate the museum as a community space and link artistic expression with the values of the Cypriot EU presidency, including unity, cultural diversity and a shared European identity.
