A Cypriot and a Romanian are bringing their darkest thoughts to the island, embarking on what they call “a dark comedy show” tour. Giorgos Kyriakou and Bianca Lala are getting ready to take the stage in Larnaca, Limassol and both sides of Nicosia, presenting their Bianca and the Beast stand-up act.
“Giorgos’ comedy is like Cyprus,” they say, “too small to be causing such a divide. But here we are. Performing in both Cypriot Greek and English, Giorgos builds jokes the way Cyprus built borders. Slowly, awkwardly, and with consequences nobody agreed on.”
In his comedy set, audiences can expect inappropriate jokes about current geopolitics, convoluted history and collective trauma. “That’s what you get when your country of origin is so close to horror that you can’t look away but just far enough, so you can enjoy halloumi while watching,” they add.
“Bianca is Romanian, which means she’s chasing her dreams, but with low expectations. She used to work in sales until she discovered her true passion: not making money.”
This comedian has performed in over 45 cities across 22 countries, has appeared on TV and headlined European festivals. This April, she is taking on Cyprus, bringing her dad jokes about growing up in Eastern Europe, wild stories about being a comedian on the road and, lots of bad dating advice.
The Bianca and the Beast show will kick off in Larnaca at Savino Live on April 22. Two shows in Nicosia will follow, at Rustem on April 23 and Black Brick on April 24, before a final show on April 25 at Limassol’s Sto Dromo bar.
