Akel leader Stefanos Stefanou and Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis met on Monday to discuss ways forward for discussions aimed at solving the Cyprus problem.
Stefanou described the meeting as “very creative and positive”, adding that “we exchanged views on the current phase of the Cyprus problem in light of developments in the wider Middle East”.
“It is a common finding that the ongoing impasse and stagnation of the Cyprus problem does not help to create the conditions or the perspective for breaking the impasse, for continuing the negotiations from the point where they left off with the aim of completing the effort that has been underway for years,” he said.
He added that the aim of resuming negotiations from the point at which they broke off at the Swiss ski resort of Crans-Montana in 2017 must be to “reach a comprehensive solution to the Cyprus problem which will end the occupation and reunite the place and the people on the basis of a bizonal, bicommunal federation with political equality”.
