Police have arrested a 58-year-old man in connection with a fatal road collision that claimed the life of a 61-year-old motorcyclist on the Nicosia-Limassol motorway near Skarinou on Sunday morning.

According to Larnaca police spokesman Spyros Chrysostomou, an arrest warrant was issued against the 58-year-old rider, who is believed to have been involved in the collision. He was arrested on Sunday afternoon.

The victim, 61-year-old Christos Siailos from Yeri, was part of a group of ten motorcyclists travelling together and was riding near the rear of the convoy.

Police said that, based on evidence gathered so far, Siailos attempted to avoid a dog that was on the roadway after it had been struck by a passing vehicle. He reportedly lost control of his motorcycle and was thrown onto the road surface.

According to investigators, the motorcyclist riding at the back of the group was unable to react in time after Siailos fell onto the carriageway and subsequently struck him with his motorcycle.

Police officers and paramedics rushed to the scene, but the 61-year-old succumbed to his injuries.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision are ongoing.
