The customs department confiscated duty free tobacco products from a residence in Limassol on Sunday, following information provided by the police drug squad.
The department said on Monday that agents searched the residence of a 52-year-old from Syria and found nine cartons of 200 cigarettes each, six packets of 20 cigarettes each, two packages of hookah tobacco weighing 250g each and three packages of rolling tobacco each weighing 50g.
The tobacco products were confiscated and will undergo the prescribed destruction procedure.
Meanwhile, the suspect was arrested and later released after his proposal for an out-of-court settlement of the case, involving the payment of €1,000, was accepted.
