PwC Cyprus chief executive Andreas Yiasemides has been appointed chairman of the council of the University of Cyprus for a three-year term. 

The appointment was made by the Cabinet and subsequently ratified by the University Senate. 

Yiasemides described the appointment as a significant responsibility, emphasising the importance of higher education to Cyprus’ future. 

“It is a great honour for me to have been appointed by the council of ministers of the Republic of Cyprus to serve as chairman of the council of the University of Cyprus, an appointment that was subsequently ratified by the University Senate,” he said. 

“I take on this responsibility with humility, commitment and a genuine desire to support the University’s continued progress,” Yiasemides added. 

He also stressed that higher education plays a vital role in shaping the country’s future, expressing his intention to work closely with the other council members, the Rector, the Senate and the wider university community. 

“I look forward to working with my fellow council members, the Rector, the Senate and the wider University community for the benefit of students and society,” he said. 

During his three-year term, Yiasemides will work alongside the university’s leadership to support its long-term development and key strategic priorities, particularly in education, research and innovation. 

Meanwhile, PwC Cyprus has supported education, innovation and youth development through the PwC Foundation, as well as through initiatives designed to strengthen cooperation between academia and the business community.
