Cyprus has topped the charts in Europe as regards testing for the coronavirus and is fifth in terms of administering vaccinations against the virus, the health ministry said on Monday.

In the last week 20 per cent of the population over the age of 12 was tested for the coronavirus, according to the ministry.

Specifically, Cyprus carried out about 35,947 tests per 100,000 people during the week from March 15 to 21, a total of 314,182 PCR and rapid tests – the majority (291,789) being rapid tests.

As for vaccinations, the Republic ranks fifth in Europe, administering 14.78 vaccines per 100 people.

A total of 131,623 coronavirus vaccinations had been administered in Cyprus by Sunday, of which 37,109 concerned individuals who have received both their jabs.
