A post-mortem on a two-month-old baby who was found positive for coronavirus was inconclusive, it was announced on Wednesday.

Medical examiner Angeliki Papetta performed the post-mortem at the Nicosia hospital morgue. According to CNA, she said though it was not possible to determine the exact cause of death, there was damage to the baby’s lungs and other organs.

Samples for histopathological, microbiological and toxicological testing were taken from infant’s body but results will not be known for some time.

The infant was treated for serious respiratory problems when it was born in February and was hospitalised for 15 days at the Makarios hospital’s intensive care unit.

The baby was found unresponsive in its bed by the parents in the early hours of Tuesday and rushed to the Limassol general hospital, but doctors were not able to resuscitate it.

And, though the child was tested and found positive for Covid-19, the parent said it had not shown any symptoms.
