Paphos firefighters were battling a blaze overnight that broke out late on Wednesday in Stavrokonnou village and was finally brought under control early on Thursday after destroying six hectares of dry grass and wild vegetation.
According to fire service spokesman Andreas Kettis, the fire broke out a few minutes after 11pm on Wednesday south of Stavrokonnou village at the Petra tou Frangou area.

The fire brigade, forest department, game and fauna service and district authorities collaborated to put out the blaze, Kettis said.
After about seven hours, the fire was brought under control at 5.50am.
The causes of the blaze are being investigated in collaboration with the police, Kettis added.
