The blood bank issued a public appeal on Tuesday for donations to boost the very low reserves.
“The situation is serious, blood supply reserves of all types very low at the moment,” the bank’s deputy head, Socrates Menelaou told the Cyprus News Agency.
“Usually, between the last days of August and the first days of September, we have a lower blood flow. People are returning from vacation and blood donation is not their priority until they return to daily life,” he said.
Menelaou warned that there will be problems if the situation continued over the next few days despite it being better than early this month.
He appealed to younger people, to donate blood to support those who really need it.
Meanwhile, 40 UNFICYP members from Slovakia and Serbia visited local health facilities in Liopetri and Famagusta on Tuesday to donate blood.
In Nicosia, blood donations are made at Engomi Blood Donation center from 7.30 am until 8.30 pm, in Limassol at Agios Georgios Shavous’s church from 7.30 am until 8.30 pm and in Larnaca, blood donations are made today and Thursday from 7.30 am until 7.30 pm on the third floor of the new ward of Larnaca Hospital.
In Paphos and Famagusta, the blood donors will be informed when blood donation centres will be operating.
