The health ministry on Wednesday announced the withdrawal of a batch of a specific frozen fruit brand found to be contaminated with Hepatitis A.

The contamination was discovered in Hungary and sent EU-wide as an alert.

The fruit is sold under the brand name ‘ardo’ in one kilo and 2.5 kilo plastic bags.

By expiry date the batch cites a ‘best before’ end of May 2024 with a Lot No: 58622131 for the 2.5 kilo bags.

The one kilo bags have a ‘best before’ date of November 2024, Lots 58622130 and 58622131.

The health services have already informed the food company that distributes the products in question on the Cypriot market with instructions for the immediate recall of all quantities of the specific batches.

However, since some quantity of the batches in question may already be in the possession of consumers, they are urged to avoid consuming them and if they wish to return them to the places where they bought them.

Hepatitis A is an inflammation of the liver that can cause mild to severe illness. It is transmitted through ingestion of contaminated food and water or through direct contact with an infectious person.

Almost everyone recovers fully from hepatitis A with a lifelong immunity.
