Tourism revenue for February increased by 42.9 per cent over last year, the island’s statistics department (Cystat) said on Tuesday.
Revenue from tourism reached €56.6 million in February 2023 compared to €39.6 mn in the same month the previous year.
For the period of January-February 2023, revenue from tourism is estimated at €102.2 mn compared to €67.8 mn in the corresponding period of 2022, an increase of 50.7 per cent.
Meanwhile, the average spend per person recorded a 13.6 per cent decrease to €475.39 in February this year compared to €550.10 in February 2022. However, the average daily spend by visitors rose to €66.96 from €48.68 in the corresponding month in 2022.
Arrivals from the United Kingdom, which account for the island’s largest market with 27.2 per cent of tourists in February 2023, spent on average €62.35 per day, while tourists from Israel – the second largest market in February with 12.8 per cent – spent on average €103.51.
Meanwhile, tourists from Greece (the third largest market with 12.6 per cent), were more frugal, spending on average €47.34 per day
Total arrivals in February numbered 119,081 compared to 71,921 the same month the year before, while the average length of stay on the island by visitors in February was 7.1 days, down from 11.3 days in February 2022, Cystat data showed.
