Yiannis Karousos has been confirmed as the new deputy leader of Disy without opposition, following the conclusion of the party’s nomination process.
The submission period for nominations for the vacant deputy leader position ended on Wednesday, 8 January, at 1pm.
In an official statement, Disy announced that the party’s supreme council meeting will take place jointly with the party’s pan-Cypriot congress on February 15.
In his nomination statement, Karousos described his candidacy as a “declaration of determination” to work hard for Disy, stating his commitment to uniting forces with all members of the party’s leadership.
He expressed his aim to “vigorously pursue the best outcomes for Disy, with clear political positions and excitement, free from personal gain.”
Karousos also highlighted the importance of the 2026 parliamentary elections, noting that these would be pivotal for the party, particularly following the challenges the party has faced in recent years and its current role as the main opposition.
He called on people who care deeply about Disy to invest their political capital and “step forward for the good of the party and the future of the country.”
Karousos emphasised that with bold reforms, strong leadership, and greater engagement with the party’s base, Disy could turn the page and lead the party to where it truly belongs, for the benefit of Cyprus society.
