Cyprus’ electricity supply will remain stable on Thursday despite incoming severe weather, according to Chara Kousiappa, spokeswoman for the Cyprus transmission system operator (TSO).

Kousiappa confirmed that power generation remained steady overnight and continued to perform well on Thursday morning. Two previously faulty units, one in Dhekelia (60MW) and another in Vasiliko (40MW), have been restored, improving capacity.

Total electricity production stands at 1,112MW, with an additional 40-50MW expected from wind energy during peak hours. Reserve systems are also in place.

“More units may be brought back online soon, and we are monitoring the situation daily,” Kousiappa added.

The electricity authority of Cyprus (EAC) confirmed the restorations, with spokeswoman Christina Papadopoulou stating that another unit returned to service on Wednesday, further strengthening supply.

Meanwhile, a cold air mass named “Coral” has begun affecting the region. Snow at Troodos Square reached two centimetres by 11am. The weather is expected to remain cloudy with isolated showers, while temperatures will drop to 3 degrees Celsius inland, 5 degrees Celsius along the coast, and -4 degrees Celsius in the highest mountains, where frost is expected.
