Limassol Mayor Yiannis Armeftis hosted a tour of the city’s new social services centers for a European delegation it was reported on Friday.

The project was co-financed by European funds, Armeftis told the Cyprus News Agency, and the delegates had the opportunity to visit Limassol and be informed about the completed facilities and the activities they support. Ideas for future funding were also discussed.

Redevelopment of Limassol’s municipal apartment buildings has contributed to improving the image of the area and strengthening the social cohesion of residents, the mayor said.

Over the course of the project, three municipal apartment buildings, on Misiaouli and Kavazoglou streets, were restored and changed for use as social and cultural centres including a multifunctional social services center.

One building operates as an afterschool children and adolescents’ centre, while the third will host programs to meet the needs of young people aged 13-35.

The project was financed with €1.9 million from the EU’s competitiveness and sustainable development 2014-2020 program and €4.6 million from the Thalya 2021-2027 cohesion policy program.
