The Cyprus National Bioethics Committee on Tuesday called for the preparation of a national strategy for the use of AI in healthcare

“The aim is to create a human-centred framework for the application of AI, which will serve and not degrade humans,” it said.

The committee urged the government to set up a council of scientific experts to develop appropriate guidelines and planning for the production of “advanced and reliable AI”.

At the base of the proposals are guidelines issued by the World Health Organization (WHO), reports by the European Parliament and reputable international and domestic scientific literature.

In its proposal, the committee proposed the broad participation of stakeholders including experts, scientists and institutions, as well as the adoption of strategic education of citizens and scientists for the safe use of AI.
