Amphibious wheelchairs and sea access ramps have been installed at beaches in the Paralimni-Dherynia municipality to better serve people with disabilities, it said on Sunday.

Specifically, it said floating wheelchairs exist at Fig Tree Bay, Vrysi A, Vrysi B and Kappari, while on the beaches of Louma, Golden Coast, Vrysi C Gianna Mari and Lombardi Cavo Maris there are Seatrack and Floating Wheelchairs.

“Recognising the obstacles faced by people with severe mobility disabilities, who cannot walk or move on the sand with a wheelchair, the municipality has installed wooden floors on which there are sunbeds and umbrellas that are available only for people with severe mobility disabilities, people in wheelchairs and blind people,” it added.

The municipality also last year gave to the forestry department four special wheelchairs for use by people with mobility problems in the Cape Greco National Forest Park.
