Total beer sales from factories in Cyprus recorded a 4 per cent decrease in May 2025 compared to the same month last year, according to data released on Thursday by the Statistical Service (Cystat).
Domestic consumption dropped by 8 per cent, falling to 4,115,967 litres from 4,475,044 litres in May 2024.
Despite this decline in local demand, beer exports rose sharply by 83.9 per cent, reaching 381,641 litres compared to 207,531 litres a year earlier.
Moreover, total deliveries in May stood at 4,497,608 litres, compared to 4,682,575 litres in the same month last year.
When examining the first five months of 2025, both domestic and export sales declined by 2.4 per cent, 378,619 litres, amounting to 15,422,120 litres, compared to 15,800,739 litres in the corresponding period of 2024.
In addition, domestic consumption between January and May fell by 16.1 per cent.
Meanwhile, exports recorded a robust increase of 96.9 per cent, reaching 112,983 litres, up from 57,466 litres in the same period last year.
