The total value of bounced cheques issued in May 2025 rose to €62,164, according to data released on Monday by the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC).
This marks an increase both from the previous month and from May of the previous year.
According to the CBC, 18 bounced cheques were issued in May 2025 with a combined value of €62,164.
By comparison, in April 2025, there were 23 bounced cheques with a total value of just €22,860.
In May 2024, the number of bounced cheques was also 23, with a total value of €36,910.
The number of individuals and entities registered in the preliminary list of the Central Information Register (CIR) for issuing bounced cheques in May 2025 stood at 14.
Of these, nine were legal entities and five were natural persons.
For the period from January to May 2025, a total of 102 bounced cheques were recorded in the preliminary list of the CIR.
These cheques, the CBC reported, had a total value of €241,588.
During the same period in 2024, there were 131 bounced cheques listed, amounting to €289,898.
The bounced cheques recorded between January and May 2025 involved 56 parties in total.
Of these, 34 were legal entities and 22 were natural persons.
Meanwhile, the number of persons officially listed in the CIR in May 2025 amounted to eight.
Of these, three were legal entities and five were natural persons who control legal entities.
No natural persons were directly registered in the CIR in May.
From January to May 2025, a total of 46 persons were registered in the CIR.
This included 18 legal entities, seven natural persons, and 21 natural persons who control legal entities.
In the corresponding period of the previous year, 101 persons had been registered in the CIR.
