The House labour committee on Tuesday concluded its discussions on hospitality sector regulations, which will now be forwarded to the House plenary.
“The discussion was completed today and the regulations for hotel employees, which ensure, at a minimum, benefits for employees in the hotel Industry, are being brought to the plenary session,” committee chairman and Akel MP Andreas Kafkalias said.
The regulations, Kafkalias said, included 13th salary provisions starting by August 1, double pay for work during specific holidays and an increase in the percentage of the employer’s contributions to the provident fund.
“More important than regulations is the implementation of agreements and abiding to collective labour contracts for all workers in the sectors,” he said, urging employers to “respect [their]employes”.
