Police in Nicosia have arrested a 28-year-old man after his three-month-old son was admitted to Makarios hospital on Tuesday in serious condition and diagnosed with shaken baby syndrome.
According to police information, the infant was transferred to the hospital on Friday, where medical examinations led doctors to conclude that the child was suffering from injuries consistent with shaken baby syndrome.
Investigators from the criminal investigation department collected statements and evidence, leading to an arrest warrant against the child’s father, who was taken into custody on Tuesday morning.
The man is being investigated on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and child abuse.
The infant, who lives with his parents in Nicosia, remains hospitalised at Makarios hospital in serious condition.
Police investigations in coordination with the medical examiner’s office are ongoing.
