A 59-year-old man, who had been remanded in police custody in the framework of investigations into a fraud case, has died at Larnaca general hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest on Tuesday morning.

According to the police, Panicos Kalaintzis from Paphos passed away at around 2.15am in hospital, where he had been admitted on March 11 – the day of his arrest.

During his treatment, Kalaintzis had been guarded by police. The Larnaca district court had issued a six-day remand order against him on March 12.

Investigations into the man’s death are ongoing.
