Police arrested five people on crime and traffic offences overnight as part of operations targeting crime and traffic violations across the island, authorities said on Tuesday.

Those arrested are linked to a range of offences, including theft, burglary, domestic violence and refusal to provide a sample during a drug test.

During the operations, officers stopped 481 vehicles and checked 563 individuals, while also carrying out 31 inspections of premises.

Traffic checks resulted in 271 reports for various violations, along with 21 cases under investigation for traffic offences. Police also impounded eight vehicles.

Speeding topped the list of offences, with 109 complaints.

A total of 59 drivers were tested for alcohol, leading to four reports, while 23 drivers were checked for drug use, with six returning positive preliminary results.
