Alpha Bank Cyprus participated as an Official Supporter in the event entitled “The Financial Wellbeing of Women and its Role in Shaping Social and Economic Resilience”, which took place on April 23, 2026, at the “Nicolaos Moundis” Strovolos Municipal Cultural Centre. The event was organised by the Financial Wellbeing Institute, under the auspices of Deputy Minister to the President Irene Piki.
The event highlighted the importance of women’s financial wellbeing as a key factor in social cohesion, economic independence and broader resilience. At the same time, it opened a timely and meaningful dialogue on issues such as financial literacy, access to knowledge, entrepreneurship, workplace equality and retirement planning.
CEO of Alpha Bank Cyprus Miltos Michaelas delivered a welcome address stressing that financial wellbeing is a prerequisite of every individual’s autonomy, security and prospects. Alpha Bank Cyprus, he further noted, considers the promotion of financial literacy to be an integral part of the role that a modern bank must play, contributing meaningfully to the empowerment of individuals through knowledge, guidance and access to reliable information.
As he pointed out, this approach is directly linked to the way in which the Bank perceives its responsibility as an organisation and is reflected in the values of the Alpha Way, namely: excellence, innovation, empowerment, effectiveness and collaboration. He added that Alpha Bank Cyprus’ support for the event formed part of a broader approach to fostering financial education from an early stage and on a sustained basis, through its participation in educational and social initiatives in Cyprus.
Meanwhile, Popi Hadjioannou Demetriou, Chief Retail Banking Officer of Alpha Bank Cyprus, took part in a fireside chat on the topic of women’s financial empowerment, moderated by Dr Panayiotis C. Andreou, President of the Financial Wellbeing Institute. The discussion also included Josie Christodoulou, Commissioner for Gender Equality, representatives of institutions and organisations, as well as executives from the wider public and private sectors.
The discussion focused on the barriers that continue to affect women’s financial wellbeing, financial confidence, the need to challenge social stereotypes and the practical actions that can contribute to reducing the gap meaningfully in the years ahead. The fireside chat was followed by an open discussion with the audience and networking among participants.
Alpha Bank Cyprus remains committed to supporting initiatives that strengthen financial literacy, broaden access to knowledge and contribute to shaping a society meaningfully, with greater opportunities, equality and economic resilience for all.
