Two road collisions occurred at the same spot in Nicosia within three and a half hours on Sunday, with both drivers testing over the legal alcohol limit, police said on Monday.

The first crash happened around 10pm when a 44-year-old driver lost control on Ayios Prokopios Street and hit a streetlight pole.

He suffered minor injuries and was taken to Nicosia general hospital.

His alcohol reading was 42μg, against a limit of 22μg.

The road was temporarily closed while the damaged pole was repaired.

At around 1.30am on Monday, a second car collided with a police vehicle parked at the scene with its lights and beacons on.

A police officer was injured and taken to hospital.

The 22-year-old driver recorded 57μg of alcohol.

Both drivers were charged out of court for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Police investigations are ongoing.
