As the health ministry started issuing temporary vaccination certificates for June travellers on Tuesday, tourist enterprises discussed the much-anticipated EU Digital Covid-19 Certificate, which is set to be implemented on July 1.
Contrary to reports from earlier Tuesday morning, those interested in obtaining the certificate do not need a plane ticket or other proof they are going to be travelling.
All that is needed is to take a vaccination card and ID or passport to one of the following loations:
Nicosia: Old Nicosia Hospital, Nehru Avenue, Ayios Andreas, postal code 1102, Nicosia
Limassol: Maternity Centre, Old Limassol Hospital, Leontiou A, 188, postal code 3022, Limassol
Larnaca: Vaccination Centre, Larnaca Port
Paphos: Maternity Centre, Paphos General Hospital, Ahepans 8026, postal code 8100, Paphos
Famagusta: Maternity Centre, Famagusta Health Centre, Christou Kkeli 25, postal code 5310, Paralimni.
A certificate is not required for trips to Greece where presentation of the vaccination card given at the vaccination centres is adequate, the ministry clarified.
The use of the Sars-CoV-2 vaccination certificate is temporary and will be automatically abolished with the implementation on July 1 of the European Digital Covid-19 certificate or GreenPass which will be used by all EU member states for travel purposes.
Meanwhile, the Association of Cyprus Tourist Enterprises (Stek) announced they recently met with deputy minister of research, innovation and digital policy Kyriakos Kokkinos to be briefed about the European Digital Covid-19 certificate.
Kokkinos explained how the system would work, both locally and across the EU, adding that the deputy ministry is working on getting everything ready by July 1.
Stek head Akis Vavlitis thanked Kokkinos and wished the deputy ministry good luck in setting in motion the implementation of the EU certificate, which will be “an important step towards opening European tourist markets”.
