Foreign minister Constantinos Kombos held a telephone conversation with United States Secretary of State Anthony Blinken on Monday.
Among other things, the pair discussed the Cyprus problem, cooperation between Cyprus and the US, developments in Ukraine, and the role played by Cyprus as a “pillar of stability” in the Eastern Mediterranean.
A statement released by Kombos said the pair “exchanged views on ways to further deepen the strategic cooperation between Cyprus and the US”.
In addition, the pair “had the opportunity to exchange views on the efforts of [Nikos Christodoulides] to restart negotiations on the Cyprus problem”.
According to US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller, the pair also discussed “the durable transatlantic unity against Russia’s unjustified war in Ukraine and the commitment of Cyprus to promote peace and security in the Eastern Mediterranean”.
