Restoration work at the Timios Prodromos church in the village of Lapathos, which is located between Lefkoniko and Trikomo, has been completed, bicommunal technical committee on cultural heritage co-chairman Sotos Ktoris said on Wednesday.
The restoration project was funded by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Development Project.
Lapathos was historically a mixed village and temporarily served as a reception centre for displaced Turkish Cypriots during the intercommunal violence which afflicted Cyprus in 1963 and 1964.
The village’s Greek Cypriot population fled in August 1974 during Turkey’s invasion of the island, and its contemporary population is a mix of Turkish Cypriots and Turkish settlers from the Black Sea region.
